Abstract submission

If you would like to make an oral or poster presentation at the conference, submit your abstract to symposium@promusa.org.

The deadline for abstract submission is 25 March 2016.

Review process

Each abstract will be pre-screened by the Scientific Committee to make sure that it conforms to the session to which it is submitted. No abstract will be considered unless it goes through this first step.

After the pre-screening, the authors will be informed about how to submit their abstract(s) to the ISHS via the online interface. If you are already a member of ISHS, the submission charge will be waived as part of your membership benefits and you will be prompted to verify your contact details. If you are not a current member of the ISHS you will be required to pay a fee (€95 for European individual, and €80 non-European individual) before submitting your abstract online. By paying this fee you will either become a new member of the ISHS or reactivate an existing membership. Please note that as a member of ISHS, there will be a reduction of the symposium registration fee.

All abstracts submitted through the online interface will go through a review process and authors will be notified if their abstract has been accepted for poster or oral presentation.

Format guidelines

The abstract needs to be submitted as a Microsoft Word or other text file (no PDF). In the header of the Word file, please be sure to indicate to which session your abstract pertains and whether you intend your paper for oral or poster presentation.

Abstracts need to follow the ISHS guidelines, which are detailed on the ISHS website  or can be downloaded here  (PDF format). You can download an example here  (PDF format).

In short, abstracts should be formatted as follows:

  • Word count: 200 to 300 words, in a single paragraph.
  • Abstracts must include the title of the paper, the authors’ names and institutions along with telephone, fax and email address. For authors and affiliations, use a numbered system as follows:
    J.W. Daniells1, G. Sachter-Smith2 and M. Taylor3
    1Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, South Johnstone, Queensland, Australia;
    2Department of Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA;
    3University of the Sunshine Coast, Maroochydore, Australia.
  • The abstract should contain a concise but comprehensive statement of the problem and results. The abstract should be considered an advertisement for the paper, and should thus be carefully and accurately written.
  • Page setup: A4 with margins as follows: top 2.7 cm; bottom 3.5 cm; left 2.8 cm; right 2.9 cm.
  • All text should be Cambria and boldface. Abstract title should be font size 18, while the rest of the abstract should be font size 11. Indent the first line of the abstract text at 0.99 cm.
  • Use the metric system exclusively. SI units should be used throughout. Use abbreviation L for liter, mg/L for milligram(me) per liter, mL for milliliter, µL for microliter and t for tonne (metric ton).
  • Abstracts should be written in English.
